The curriculum
The IB Diploma Programme is designed as an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, normally aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. The programme at FKG is taught over two years and has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities.
IB Diploma Programme students study six courses at higher level or standard level. Students must choose one subject from each of groups 1 to 6. In addition, the programme has three core requirements that broaden the educational experience and challenge students to apply their knowledge and understanding:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
- Extended Essay (EE)

What does studying for the IB Diploma imply?
Although English at higher level is a subject within the IBDP at Felix-Klein-Gymnasium, a good standard of English must be a pre-requisite for successful participation in the programme. Even at standard level each subject demands intensive and regular work. Planning, researching and writing the Extended Essay and fulfilling the CAS requirements are quite time-consuming. Diploma students must have – and will continuously improve – good time-management, self-discipline and the ability to organise their work on a long-term perspective. Among many other IB-specific qualities, it is especially these features that are an excellent preparation for university and will highly benefit IB graduates. The qualifications and skills gained in the IB Diploma Programme are highly esteemed worldwide.
